About Us

What We Do

Food Donations
Four times each week, the FRN collects and delivers unserved food from four campus dining halls, donating them to shelters, pantries, and other organizations in need.
Volunteering
We are committed to working alongside our partners to facilitate their distribution of our recovered meals. FRN relies on the commitment of its student volunteers to fulfill our mission.
awareness
Food waste and food insecurity can be difficult to observe. By acknowledging these issues and taking decisive action to resolve them, the FRN rallies the community behind a common effort.
Advocacy
Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations, and reinforced at Penn State, the FRN continually advocates for more responsible consumption of resources.

The History of FRN

Food Recovery Network is the largest student-led movement fighting food waste and working to end hunger in America. The Food Recovery Network was established in 2011 to reduce food waste and hunger on college campuses.

Food And Nutrition Programs

FRN prides itself on their nationwide network of 4,000 students, alumni, food businesses, hunger-fighting partners, donors, and community supporters that ensure successful program years of ensuring people have access to healthy, nutritious food and helping to mitigate the climate crisis through grassroots food recovery efforts.

Food Recovery Verified

Through their Food Recovery Verified program, FRN provides technical assistance and support to food businesses that seek to limit waste and feed people through food recovery. They partner with companies across the U.S. to recover at conferences and events, as well as provide third-party verification for food businesses that are donating their surplus food to hunger-fighting partners.
